"The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood." John 1:14, The Message
“It is difficult not to have plans, not to organize people around an urgent cause, and not to feel that you are working directly for social progress. But I wonder more and more if the first thing shouldn’t be to know people by name, to eat and drink with them, to listen to their stories and to tell your own, and to let them know with words, handshakes and hugs that you do not simply like them, but truly love them.” Henri Nouwen
The Ignite program is an international mission/discipleship program for young adults aged18-30, who want to spend one year in an urban community living out God’s mission while being trained and equipped as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Ignite is for the innovators, the creators, the heroic, the willing; all those who are hungry for God, world change, and a demanding, life-changing year of growth.
The Ignite year runs from September to June and includes:
5 weeks of intense classroom training (as well as regular weekly training and occasional retreats throughout the rest of the year) and
Nine months in urban placement (including retreat and mission weekends, training seminars, etc.)
In their own voices:
“The training was intense, but worth it. The program took me outside my normal comfort zone, and I was challenged around every corner. I learned lessons that will stay with me throughout my life, and I can honestly say that I've been changed in a very significant way. Ignite lived up to its name, and because of that I'm on fire for God, more than ever before.” Heather (2003-2004)
“Everyday is filled with new challenges, new ideas new people, new teaching and quite frankly new everything. Even though at times we face a nerve racking incline to the top experience, when we finally reach the top it’s all free sailing from there and I love roller coasters.” Rebecca (2004-2005)
“Ignite was the most important year of my life. I learned who I was, who I am supposed to be and what God’s vision is for my life. It was definitely worth giving up a year of my life to learn and grow closer to God.” Curtis (2004 – 2005)
