Discipleship Classes and Bible Study
In order to keep healthy and growing as a Christian, it is vitally important to be constantly learning and applying God’s truth to our lives. For this reason, Bible study classes are an integral part of the community at 614. Destructive values and unhealthy perspectives on life are constantly bombarding our people, often forming their thinking and motivating their choices. It is therefore important to consistently be refocusing our worldview in accordance with a Biblical and true understanding of who we are as people and how we are to live life. These weekly classes offer opportunity to study, discuss and apply God’s Word to our lives and allow it to shape our worldview and motivate our choices. This is particularly important for those who take on leadership roles and who influence the perspectives and choices of others. The corporate nature of Bible study is important, as open discussion allows for many different perspectives and applications of shared truth. The classes are designed so that newcomers and people who have studied for years can journey together in learning, each adding to the other’s experience.
In addition to Bible studies, there are Discipleship classes offered at 614. People are who are exploring Christianity or are new followers of Jesus are given the chance to explore basic Christian teachings. People interested in becoming Salvation Army soldiers (a deeper commitment to membership) are able to take special classes to learn Salvation Army doctrine and practice. There is also a weekly Soldiers’ class, where members of the corps are able to learn about and discuss the Bible, issues around serving/ministry/helping others, leadership, and other topics.
