The River St. Cafe
614 operates a Café where delicious, nutritious breakfasts and lunches are served. These meals are free for anyone in the community. The Café serves as a meeting place for people to come and share community meals and lives. At the start of each day, in the Café, all staff, volunteers and community members participate in devotions.
Approximately 45-50 volunteers per month work through out the centre. In January 2006, even with all the days closed due to holidays there were still a 754 recorded volunteer hours. In that same month, 1,446 people benefited from hot meals, sandwiches, hot drinks and cold drinks.
614 runs a food bank where people in the community can access emergency food. There are also clothing days where people can come in and try on donated clothing to take home.
Volunteers at the centre clean, serve in the café, make meals, fill food orders, sort food for the food bank, distribute and sort donated clothing, etc. Counselling is available for volunteers who would like it.
