The area: A housing estate in the town of Barry with a population of around 3,000 people, Gibbonsdown is a wonderful and colourful community filled with many hard-working individuals and families. However it has been plagued by unemployment, crime, drug and alcohol addictions, poor care for the vulnerable and elderly and a lack of community space leading to many people feeling quite isolated. It is the most deprived community in the county (Vale of Glamorgan) according to the Wales index of multiple deprivation.

The work: We are a community of faith seeking to live out the Christian gospel in our daily lives. This is expressed in small ways through our relationships with each other in the community and the sharing of our lives together but also through projects like youth clubs, educational programmes for young people, children’s work, home visitation to the elderly, schools work, community partnerships and social action projects. We gather weekly as a church to pray, worship, encourage each other and learn how to follow Jesus better every Sunday morning. We are the only Christian community living and serving in Gibbonsdown at this time.
Personnel opportunities: Our work has mushroomed over the last two years and we are quite desperate for people with skills in the following areas: ministry to the elderly, administration, media, kids work, youth work, pastoral care and counselling.
