To C.H. - I repent
My “Spiritual Formation Instructor” in college taught us about journaling. Here was my attitude about it…She would say, “I place a note at the front of my journals with instructions to destroy in the event of my death.” I would give a smart alec remark, “I place a note in my journal that says destroy in the event of my arrest.” I don’t like to journal. I feel inferior and self conscious, probably from unresolved issues in my childhood. I had a happy childhood, but we all have stuff we have to deal with. Anyway, I can’t bring myself to opening up and sharing my thoughts or fears. I also don’t think I need a record of my opinions on topics nor should I put personal information, like my S.I.N. number (486 845 923) for example. I also couldn’t cope with the thought I might lose it, and others could read all of my stuff, nor would I want to come under the scrutiny of those who feel they have a comment about everything I think or write. Nope, I don’t like to journal. I’ll stick to blogging.Feel free to comment…

Hey Rick,
Just finished reading your blog... have some thoughts for you on this...
so journaling and blogging... could they not the same thing?
for me - I'm a journaler... I love to write and express myself I share them with whomever I feel needs to read it... I also blog... and share my heartaches, thoughts, things that God is doing or showing me... and through blogging and journaling, in either way someone out there is reading my blog... as for my journals, maybe one day someone will come across it - open it up, and read it. who knows?
but I just see that if your not writting in a journal or in some sort of book with some blank pages in it or are writting and sharing your stuff on the world wide web... to me... its the same... you may not share your most deep inner feelings, or emtotions... but my friend... i think it is a form of journaling... you said that you can't bring yourself to opeing up and sharing your thoughts and fears... the thing is you do! you blog - they are your thoughts... :)
so theres my thoughts on this... :)
Bless you!
Michelle

blogging is a variant form of journalling. Whenever one expresses thoughts for all to read is more than journalling. The thoughts expresses ones ability to be free from fear of others knowing who you are (As a man thinks, so is he). Also when one privately writes in a journal there may be expressions of fear, but not freedom from that fear. So, to me blogging is a higher form of journalling because it takes greater courage and confidence to allow others to see what really makes us tick. God bless the bloggers.
As technology moves along...things may be recorded in different ways. Firstly for us First Nations people we have the oral stories, there are also pictographs or stories in pictures...some of the stories fact others likely thoughts. People from all cultures around the world have thoughts and share their thoughts (and God knows them all). It is good we can hide them from each other sometimes but also good that we can share them also. For me this blog has been a real highlight of my internet experience. I continue to return to it time and time again just to read...Rick or Dee's latest thoughts. Infact it is placed in my favourites. The thoughts are an important way of connecting to each other. Whatever we have to share is what makes us human no matter whether it makes sense to others or not. Thankfully you often do make sense. So God bless you as you continue to blog! Sharon D.
Rick: Just in case I'm the "CH" you are referring to... I'm delighted to find that you finally "get it." Even I didn't ask you to make your journal as public as this blog! There are various forms of being intentional with our spiritual growth. Journalling, blogging... they keep us accountable - to God, to ourselves and to one another.
CH
hahahaha...thanks Cathie...
